THIS IS A RECAP OF THE DIM MAK SATURDAY SHOWCASE @ the RADIO ROOM PATIO at SXSW by DAVE PECINA, a Dim Mak intern and our lead street team rep for Austin. It’s quite the story:
The Saturday showcase was wild! EVERYBODY wanted to be at the party. I think we reached capacity by 11PM? I don’t know but it was fast. I know the venue had to open up a third entrance in an ally just to keep up. Bird, Klever, and LA Riots killed but it hit the fan when Steve came out. All Leather opened up for him and it was the perfect pump up. As soon as All Leather finished their set Steve opened up. The place went nuts! It was only a build up of what was to come. MSTRKRFT. Man. The kids were going ape shit. Not just in the venue, but in the ally. By the time MSTRKRFT went on it was at full capacity and there had to be 200+ people waiting to get in. About 10 to 15min. into MSTRKRFT’s set the music stopped. Everything just stopped. No one knew what was going on. I rushed to the back where the sound board was to see if I could find out what was going on. Turns out, during MSTRKRFT’s set, the kids in the ally way were literally rioting. As I was heading back I just saw cop lights in the ally. So I went to the ally entrance and saw 9 or so cops on horses on one end and a patty wagon coming in on the other side. Keep in mind there are 600+ people in the venue not knowing what was going on this whole time. As soon as someone saw the cops everybody started chanting “f#&k the pigs!”. That just made the whole situation worse. They wanted to shut us down. Luckly Jesse was a complete pro and calmed everybody down long enough for the cops to just let it go. The party just kept going. MSTRKRFT started their set again and the whole thing finished without a hitch. It was just good. So good. So there you have it, MSTRKRFT started and finished a riot. (Dave Pecina)
